It happens ever so rarely that folks from all walks of life come together to support a cause. On 21st February 2016 over 5,000 Amdavadis rallied at the streets skirting LD Engineering College clad in white tee shirts that read ‘together we will make a difference’.

Many NGOs work round the clock all year for the betterment of those in need. This congregation was a display of the public’s trust and support for these organizations. Their efforts were acknowledged and appreciated today as children, men, women and aged all marched together to raise funds. Motif, a global BPO and KPO service provider, has been carrying out this movement for the past fourteen years through charity walks. Every year, after a critical filtering method, Motif selects four NGOs based in Ahmedabad that have been effectively making progress in their fields. This year the NGOs were:

  • JeevanTirth – 80(G): Works in fields of education, environment, rural development and human rights.
  • Sadvichar Parivar – 80(G): Relief and welfare services to the deprived, distressed and diseased.
  • Shrimad Rajchandra Seva Kendra – 80(G): Holistic education for impaired under – privileged children.
  • The Gujarat Cancer Society – 80(G) & 35(AC): Free or subsidized treatment for cancer patients.

The participants register through a donation of at least 300 rupees in favor of their desired NGO, this sum is matched by Motif. This not only helps create funds for the organizations, but also helps in spreading awareness about the NGOs and their activities.

The morning air reverberated with festivities as vehicles carrying the participants flanked the street outside LD College of Engineering. At 7 AM the walk commenced with an excellent bagpipes performance by school children. The excitement of walkers, runners and skaters was matched by that of drums and bands punctuated by volunteers and school children to cheer up the participants throughout the 4 kilometers loop that circled the college. Price distribution and stage performances followed the charity walk. Dhvanit, the voice of Ahmedabad, hosted the show and won the crowd by his jesting personality. The eldest participant was 80 years of age who has been coming to the Motif charity walks for the past 13 years! A sensational depiction of the national anthem was performed by the impaired children of Umang School. Ladies from Ramapir no Tekro, members of JeevanTirth, sported the charity walk tees over their sarees to show their support, which was applauded by all.
