Treasure of Books and Educational Toys!
What We Do?
“Pitara” with the help of our “GyanVan” reaches to the schools with a treasure of educational books and toys. On the first day of the three-day program, children are motivated to read as many books as they can free so that they need not spent on them! On the second day we conduct many participatory reading activities like loud reading, book review, story creating, poetry reciting etc. to generate interest in reading. On the third day they purchase books that interested them the most. We select best, low-cost, educational books from the reputed publishers and present to the children as per their reading skills and interest.
Why We Do?
We want to help in inculcating reading habit among young children, their parents and teachers. Many schools now invite us on yearly bases to help in creating interest among children to pick up books of their choice. It is actually a paradise for genuine book lovers. It is fascinating to see how underprivileged children save money from their pocket expenses to purchase books of their choice.
Theory of Change:
If children are motivated to read books, it will bring transformative change in their lives because research shows that regular reading not only increases our vocabulary and comprehension skills but also educate us, keep our brain healthy, develop neurological connections, reduce stress, motivate us, stimulate creativity, enable us to understand others, improve empathy, entertain us and helps to live fulfilling life.
Jeevantirth initiated this wonderful activity by taking inspiration from Eklavya-M.P. Bhopal/Hoshangabad and ARCH–Dharampur, Gujarat in 2016-17 with active participation of Anusandhan, Gujarat. Seeing that the current generation of children are being void of this treasure, we decided to take a small step towards introducing them to the world of literature by means of book fairs.
Pitara include about 1,000 titles of books in three languages i.e. Gujarati, Hindi and English from various highly reputed publishing houses like Tulika, Eklavya, Pratham, CBT, NBT, NCERT etc. that are generally not available in market. Many book fairs have been conducted so far in which thousands of children are benefitted.
