Beauty Parlour and Wellbeing Classes

What We Do?

As a part of our Urban Initiative we are undertaking a short-term beautician course at VTC, Vadaj for unemployed girls of Ramapir no Tekro and neighbouring slum areas to learn and earn by grooming themselves and others. With the curriculum, training and material support from Godrej we train the young girls in facial, Hair Spa & Hair Treatments, Hands & Feet Massage, Mehndi and other skills. Hand-holding support is also provided to each successful candidate to get placement after the course. We also motivate them to be a life-long learner by giving life-skill training, and helping them to prepare and work on self-development plan.

Why We Do?

We want slum girls to boost their self-esteem, provide opportunity to earn pocket expanses or scope of earning livelihood and ease different stresses they face like carrier demands and frustrations, negative thoughts or feelings about themselves, changes in their bodies, problems with friends and/or peers etc. We also want to motivate them to be a life-long learner by undergoing life-skill training, and help them to prepare and work on self-development plan. We also want to make them enlightened citizens and change agents in community.

Theory of Change:

If Teenage girls are provided learning and applying personal grooming tips, it will boost their self-esteem and provide them opportunity to earn pocket expanses or earning livelihood. It will also help them to cope-up some of the stresses like carrier demands and frustrations, negative thoughts or feelings about themselves, changes in their bodies, problems with friends and/or peers etc. it will also make them enlightened citizens and change agents in community.

In each batch, there are around 8 to 10 students. Besides imparting them professional training, emphasis has also been laid upon their communication and body language which is an essential parameter in service industry. Many girls are now placed in well-known salons of the city including Herrlich Unisex Salon, Raj Salon (Akhbar Nagar), Sharma Salon (Ranip) and Sharma Salon (Bhimjipura).
