What We Do?

We take our specially designed vehicle to different urban-rural schools and communities with specific theme for school going or non-school going children and elders, so that they get exposure to different subjects and topics related to their daily life. We cover subjects like Rain Water Harvesting, Science in Daily Life, Importance and techniques of Tree Plantation and Nurturing, Energy Saving Techniques in Homes – Cooking and Lighting, Waste management in Schools and Communities, Sports & Games, Mental Gymnasium etc. We try to cover as many subjects and as many schools/villages to cover large population.

Why We Do?

We conceptualised this idea during the decade of Education for Sustainable Development. The Global Action Programme (GAP) on ESD, which ran from 2015 to 2019, aimed to generate and scale-up ESD and to accelerate progress towards sustainable development. Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is recognized as a key element of quality education and a crucial enabler for sustainable development. Target 4.7 of SDG 4 on education specifically addresses ESD and related approaches.  We want to contribute in achieving GSD Goals targets by 2030 in our modest way.

Theory of Change:

To make real progress towards the SDGs 2030, we have to make education community oriented and community education oriented. Embarking on the path of sustainable development will require a profound transformation of how we think and act. For that individuals and communities must become sustainability change-makers. This can be done more effectively on large scale through community education programs like School on Wheels.

We take SOWs to urban slums and rural areas where our educational projects run. About 50 villages of Palanpur, Banaskantha, Narmada and other districts are covered on regular bases. Vada village of Kankrej Block is 200 Kms. away from Ahmadabad and every year 10 odd nearby village children are eagerly waiting in vacation that ‘School on Wheels’ will bring loads of fun and educational activities for them. As a part of the Non Formal Education Program, every year we try to reach the un-reached children of rural Gujarat by running ‘School on Wheels’ in this remote area of North Gujarat. Under the leadership of Kamlesh Sir, team of 8 volunteers reach to 500 children and carried out various activities related to science experiments, art & craft, traditional games, making action toys and whatnot!
