What We Do?

We run sewing classes in batches of about 20 women, mainly young at their convenient time and flexible period to learn basic sewing skill or higher order skill as per their desire, interest and ability to learn. In addition to the sewing they are also taught decorating cloths with Tikki work or Stitching work and Rakhi making, cooking different recipes, Craft work etc. We also facilitate them in getting sewing machine of their own and hand-holding support to get job in ready-made garment industry or work from home. They also enjoy by participating in sports, trip and other activities of Jeevantirth.

Why We Do?

We are doing this activity because learning sewing is one of the easiest and most favoured basic skills women want to have. It boost their self-confidence, they can save money by doing sewing for their own requirement at leisure and earn from home by doing some job work also. Some women support their families by extra income to meet both the ends, some do professional work to earn more or some of them can live on their own with dignity during difficult circumstances. This activity also provides them opportunity to socialise, discuss and act upon their common issues.

Theory of Change:

“Life skills and soft skills make you smart life”. You can change the way you think and feel by acquiring one or the other basic skill which can give joy of creativity, earn some money and boosts your social status by recognition of your talent. Right Knowledge, Right Skill and Right Attitude can change and shape your life.

Under the instruction and supervision of Mrs. Minaxi Dhairav, the program allows a woman/girl to continue the course as long as she desires depending on her interests and ability to learn. For instance, some join the course to learn about stitching and embroidery only while others, about making blouse, salwar suit, frock etc.

At an average 20 students participate monthly in the sewing class program. They are also taught: cutting out fabric as per stitching, basic blouse and moved forward to more complex designs, basic frock, basic kurta, Anarkali dress, Brocade blouse, Chudidar pyjama, Punjabi suit, Katori blouse, Astar blouse, etc.

As a part of their Personal Social Responsibility they also prepared “Barsati” for 125 Tribal elders of Dediapada, so that they can protect themselves in rainy season; Masks during Covid-19 Pandemic time, handkerchiefs for slum children etc.
