| Project Description: |
| |
| Goal: |
| To form ‘Harit Sena’ of 5000 school children, so that they become global citizen by nurturing local culture and heritage. Let reverence for life be the foundation for their environmental activism. |
| |
| Purpose/ Objective: |
| The proposed project is a serious attempt to nurture the idea of environmental activism in the minds of future citizens. “No- Word Action” will be basic constituent of the programme. Each member of the ‘Harit Sena’ will plant and protect at least one tree every year and will take definite action in the field of environmental protection. Their personal life will also get enriched by coming nearer to the Mother Earth. |
| |
| These members of ‘Harit Sena’ will become a change agent to propagate eco-friendly life style and concept of sustainable development in the society. |
| |
| Problems/Issues the project will address: |
| JEEVANTIRTH feels that apathetic attitude of the common citizen in the field of environment is of serious concern. People generally do not take much interest in environmental related issues nor do they think environmentally. They do not realise that our own existence is at stake if we do not bother ourselves asking basic issues related to environment like Natural Resource Management. Real “Gram Swaraj” can be attained only through self leadership development by rural youth. The main problem that the project wants to address is “Lake of people’s initiative for environmental activism.” |
| |
| Geographical Focus: |
| Mainly districts of North Gujarat namely Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Patan, Mehsana and Gandhinagar. |
| |
| Strategy: |
| About two Post basic school and 8 primary schools will be selected from each district of North Gujarat. Environmental aspects from the school curriculum and text book will be high lightened and students as well as teachers will be motivated to connect their lives and study with local environment. |
| |
| Each post basic school will adopt 4 primary schools in 4 different villages other then their own village. Child to child approach will be incorporated in the strategy. Harit Sena will be formed in all the post basic and primary schools. |
| |
| Forest department and other CBOs, educational institutional and NGOs will be involved in the programme. Practical training for tree plantation and protection will be given to every member of the Harit Sena. Identity Card, Certificate, on the tips of environmental activism, posters etc. will be given to them with trainings, saplings of indigenous fruit bearing trees. |
| |
| Outcome of the project: |
 |
Preparation of guideline for teachers about ‘how to link environmental aspects of practical use with basic school curriculum’. |
 |
Plantation of 5000 saplings. |
 |
Concept of ‘Clean village Green village’ implemented in 50 villages. |
|
| |
| Follow up: |
| Planning follow up activities is an integral part of the project. Our vision is to form a green brigade in Gujarat which believes in ‘Soil based economy, not oil based economy.’ |
