Computer Training Program
(Computer Education and Education through Computer):

Background:

The decline in the overall growth rate of employment in 1994 - 2000 was largely attributable to a near stagnation of employment in agriculture. As a result, the share of agriculture in total employment dropped substantially from 60 per cent in1993-94 to 57 per cent in 1999-2000. Unemployment and lack of marketable skill have a direct relationship. As per statistics of the directorate General of Employment and Training, Ministry of Labour and Employment 1999 - 2000, percentage of rural workers possessing marketable skills is just 10% for males and 6.3% for females.

Jeevantirth would like to create a cadre of Young Professionals in the village, with required life skills and income generating skills who can be friend , facilitator and guide to the village community and can act as an intermediary with the government and as representative of NGOs in the grassroots. This would assist in capacity building of rural people. The objective of the proposed scheme is not merely provide vocational skill for income generation but also life skills, information and awareness; so that the trained youth can act as resource persons for the village for providing them information, can work in NGOs in grass root areas which are so far not reached, be resource persons for Government schemes such as Employment Guarantee Scheme, act as liaison between the Panchayats and the people or can meet any other need of the village.

Computer Training Centre will provide us an opportunity to form a brigade of young change agents in the neighboring villages who can work for the all round, sound and sustainable development by nurturing nature, protecting culture and embracing new science and technologies.
